Arkansas Trip

Our Great-grandma died at the end of December. So our family traveled up to Arkansas for her funeral. We were able to rake and do other clean-up at Great's house. We were thankful to be able to spend visiting time with family we don't often see. Below are so photos of our time there.

SPIRIT OF GOD, DESCEND UPON MY HEART

This lovely hymn is my prayer today:

Spirit of God, descend upon my heart;
wean it from earth, through all its pulses move.
Stoop to my weakness, mighty as Thou art,
And make me love Thee as I ought to love.

Hast thou not bid us love thee, God and King?
All, all Thine own - soul, heart and strength and mind.
I see Thy cross - there teach my heart to cling;
O let me seek Thee, and O let me find.

Teach me to feel that Thou art always nigh;
Teach me the struggles of the soul to bear -
To check the rising doubt, the rebel sigh;
Teach me the patience of unanswered prayer.

Teach me to love Thee as Thine angels love,
One holy passion filling all my frame.
The baptism of the heav'n-descended Dove -
My heart an altar and Thy love the flame.

If Men Are Not Lost...

A hundred thousand souls a day,
Are passing one by one away,
In Christless guilt and gloom,
Without one ray of hope or light,
With future dark as endless night,
     They're passing to their doom.

O Holy Ghost, Thy people move,
Baptize their hearts with faith and love,
And consecrate their gold.
At Jesus' feet their millions pour,
And all their ranks unite once more,
As in the days of old.

Armies of prayer your promise claim,
Prove the full power of Jesus' name,
And take the victory.
Your conqu'ring Captain leads you on,
The glorious fight may still be won,
     This very century.

The Master's coming draweth near,
The Son of Man will soon appear,
His Kingdom is at hand.
But ere that glorious day can be,
This gospel of the Kingdom, we
     Must preach in ev'ry land.

They're passing, passing fast away,
A hundred thousand souls a day,
In Christless guilt and gloom.
O Church of Christ, what wilt thou say
When in the awful judgment day,
They charge thee with their doom?

The Day I Said Goodbye

Johny Kautt's temporary grave marker
Jacob "Johny" Kautt
The mound was fresh with new turned dirt
The flowers not even wilted yet.
His family gathered round his body hid,
Eyes raised heavenward in prayer.
A tear begins to steal down my cheek
A single tear drips down.
And then we weep, silently at first.
It is too hard to bid adieu to the one we love,
To say “good-bye”, or walk on.
And so we sob aloud, unhindered,
The feelings flow from our torn hearts
Rent by this loss so fresh.
But now it is time to walk away,
To move on in life without you.
The day I said good-bye to you,
Was certainly not the last day
I cried for you.

Arkansas Trip Photos

We were just in Arkansas for the funeral and burial of our dear Grandpa Johny Kautt. A sister church kindly let us use one of their people movers, which was very nice! Below are some photos from the trip.

Grandpa

As of around 5:00 this morning, our dear Grandpa Kautt died. Please pray for us as this is a hard time. Abby's post about it is below.

Goodbye Grandpa

50I declare to you, brothers, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. 51Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed— 52in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. 53For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality. 54When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: “Death has been swallowed up in victory.”
55“Where, O death, is your victory?
Where, O death, is your sting?”56The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. 57But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
58Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.”

1 Corinthians 15:50-58

Grandpa & Grandma Kautt
Grandpa & Grandma Kautt
My dear paternal grandfather Jacob John “Johny” Kautt passed from this life into the arms of Jesus this morning at 5:15.   He will be missed by his faithful wife of 53 years, and his 3 children, Becky, David & Jim.  By his son-in-law Dennis, and  2 daughters-in-law, Julia and Naomi, and by his 10 grandchildren – Joel, Jason, Abby, Rachel, Caleb, Dennis, Phoebe, Johanna, Rowena and Jaden Jacob.   And by a host of dear friends and extended family.
We were truly blessed to have him in our lives, whether for a long time or short.  His passion to serve his Creator extends now to his two sons who are both ministers of the Gospel, in Texas and Germany.  His love for God and family was contagious, and his compassion for people, exemplary.
I will miss him every day, I already do in so many ways – his smile that lit up the entire room, his laugh that made you want to join in, his hugs that I cherished, and his words of kindness and wisdom.  But, I rejoice along with the apostle Paul that through his Saviour Jesus, he too has overcome death!
Please join with me in celebrating his life – and give God all the glory!
Soli Deo Gloria!
