Daily Bread

"Give us this day our daily bread."  Matthew 6:11

I think it's interesting that, just as we need our daily meal from the Bread of Life (Jesus), so bread that last only a few days is more healthy for you.  We usually make a round of home made bread each day at our house.  The main reason we do is because it's all eaten up in one day!! =)   But, also, breads that have good oils in them don't last as long as white breads, for example, therefore they can't sit on the shelf, or fridge for days on end.

Mom made this bread this morning for breakfast.

It's delicious, and there's only a little left over. =)

Mmmmmm....

One of my favorite things in this life is a slice of hot homemade bread spread with melting butter. Second favorite is that same bread dipped in chicken soup. Like you said, Mmmmmm...
That bread has an interesting shape. Is there anything special about it? Could you post the recipe?

Amy,

I agree. Nothing beats hot bread with butter on it! =)

Recipe:

Mom did not roll out the dough this batch, because it was too wet. She just poured it straight into the pan, and baked it. So, your version may not turn out the same way mom's did. =)

2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
2 tsp. Rumford Baking Powder (aluminum free)
1 tsp. Salt
6 tbsp. Oil or butter
2/3 cup milk

Sift flour, Rumford Baking Powder, and salt together. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles course meal. Add milk to make a soft dough. Turn out on floured surface and knead gently for 30 second. Roll out to ½ inch to ¾ inch thickness. Cut into rounds of desired size and place on greased baking pan. Bake in hot oven (450F) for 12-15 minutes. Yield: 8-10 biscuits.

(Taken from the Rumford Baking Powder can.) BTW, the Rumford baking powder is gluten free, also.

Thanks,
Phoebe
