I believe it is a Texas dandelion. We have a Texas wildflower poster we got at the capital last time we were there, and the flower pictured by that name looks quite similar. You can double-check for yourself next time you visit us. :)
Thank you for your help! I think you solved the "mystery". :) I looked up "texas dandelion" on the internet and the photo of a texas dandelion does look very similar, if not identical to the plant we have in the backyard.
