Caleb & Claudia ~ Engaged!

~  Caleb and Claudia are getting married on March 8, 2014!  ~

Johanna and Phoebe took their official engagement photos a week ago, and we're finally announcing it here on our family blog!  We're grateful to the Lord for bringing these two lives together, for His glory!

"Will you marry me?"
They're so cute together.  :)

Detail

The ring.

It's beautiful!  Caleb did a good job of picking it out.  :)

She said yes!  (Obviously!)

Johanna did a great job of capturing their love for one another. :)

Hummingbird Cake Recipe

This is the recipe for the cake-muffins that I made for Caleb's birthday.  It's quite easy to make, and so tasty. I've also included photos of the process.
Bananas, pineapple, sea salt, baking soda, cinnamon, coconut oil, honey, walnuts, vanilla, eggs, and whole wheat flour - the ingredients for Hummingbird Cake.

Hummingbird Cake
From the kitchen of Julia Kautt

Ingredients:
4 ½ cups of flour
2 cups honey or 12-16 ounces of concentrated fruit juice (adjust other liquids)
1 ½ tsp. salt
1 ½ tsp. soda
1 ½ tsp. cinnamon
4 – 5 (small) eggs or 3 (large), beaten
1 ½ cups oil
2 ¼ tbsp. vanilla (I’ve done it without this)
12 ounces crushed pineapple
1 ½ cups chopped pecans (I’ve used almonds & walnuts for a substitute)
3 cups diced bananas

Instructions:
Combine dry ingredients.
Whole wheat flour

Ground Cinnamon
Mix the dry ingredients.

Add eggs, oil, vanilla & honey. Combine without beating.
Mixing the eggs, oil, vanilla and honey.

Add remaining ingredients.
The rest of the ingredients in the mixing bowl.

Pour into large cake pan. Bake 30-45 minutes at 350 degrees. Cool in pan 10 minutes before removing.  (In this case, I put the batter into muffin tins.)

Frosting:
16 ounce cream cheese, room temperature
2/3 cups honey
1 tsp. vanilla (I've done without this, and it tasted just fine!)

Frost cake between layers & on top & side. Sprinkle with chopped pecans.

The finished product!

Caleb's 18th Birthday

Caleb's 18th birthday was yesterday, and we had a great celebration with lots of yummy food.  Blessings to you, Caleb, on your new year of life!

The Hummingbird cake muffins, mmmm...

The muffins with delicious toppings: Homemade banana ice cream, frozen cherries and pineapple.

Caleb's plate: steamed broccoli, Mexican stroganoff on whole wheat noddles, and pinto beans.

The homemade whole wheat biscuits devoured within minutes (I knew I should've made more!)

Caleb

Caleb (2004 or 2005)

Eighteen years ago today, a Kautt child was brought into this world by the grace of God. Momma was telling me (just yesterday) how the day before Caleb was born, the midwife thought she found placenta previa. He was already two weeks late, and there was the danger of hemorrhage and possible death. A sonogram just a few hours before his birth revealed this was a false alarm.  Today as we celebrate our brother Caleb's eighteenth Birthday, we are very grateful to God that his birth came through safely. Some things I admire in Caleb are:

He is.....

...Courageous

...Attentive

...Light-hearted (in a good sort of way-- he loves to laugh)

...Earnest in his walk as a Christian

...Builder of friendships

We love you, Caleb Nathaniel, and we pray that God will bless you with many more years of life!!!

Happy eighteenth!!!
